With great love, we remember a beloved father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was born in Aibonito, Puerto Rico, to Juan Rodriguez Colon and Carlota Alicea. The Rodriguez family lived in Cidra, Puerto Rico before relocating to Chicago when he was a young child, where he grew up surrounded by family, community, and faith. He was proud to be part of the first graduating class of Roberto Clemente High School. Soon after, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, honorably serving his country as an airman.
Following his military service, he dedicated the next 40 years and eight months to the United States Postal Service, where he was known for a strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment.
One of the greatest joys of his life was be becoming a father. On November 27, 1979, he welcomed his one and only daughter, Eva, with her mother Emily, who remained an important part of his life story. Years later, on October 4, 2021, his heart grew even fuller when he was lovingly promoted to “Grandpa Sam” with the birth of his cherished grandson, Jace.
A man of deep faith, he lived as a devoted Christian. He was known to be a sharp dresser who took great pride in his appearance and carried himself with style. He also had a wonderful sense of humor and a hearty laugh. that could fill a room. Though he had his stubborn moments, he loved deeply, and in his own special way, touching the lives and hearts of those around him.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Eva, his treasured grandson Jace, Emily, the mother of his daughter, his devoted siblings, many beloved nieces and nephews, and dear friends who will miss him greatly. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, love, and cherished moments. He is now at peace in the arms of the Lord.
