Joyce Calderone

Joyce A Calderone was born on March 3rd, 1934 to Alexander & Amanda Russell in Daggett Township, Michigan and grew up in Northland Michigan located in Marquette County in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. She graduated from Gwinn High School in 1951. Joyce learned how to cook, sew, garden, cut hair, type and even help her father lumberjacking in the north woods of the Upper Peninsula. After graduating from high school, she moved to Chicago Illinois and worked for AT&T for a few years and later worked in the accounting department for United Airlines for 22 years before retiring in 1989 at the age of 55.  

Joyce married Frank Calderone and they raised five children: Steve, Frank Jr, Philip, Karen and James. Joyce placed her greatest value on her family, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. She was closely involved in family, had a great sense of humor and was an excellent cook. Specialty foods included spaghetti sauce (Sicilian recipe), baked lasagna; raisin and Italian Cucidati cookies and holiday bourbon cake.  Although not trained as an engineer, she always seemed capable of engineering a solution to any problem by her sheer will and uncanny common sense.

Joyce Calderone died on April 17th, 2022 (Easter Morning) at her home in Crystal Lake, IL at the age of 88 years. She is preceded in death by her husband Frank, brothers Richard, Donald, James, Dale, and sisters Marcella and Lois. She is survived by her two brothers Carl and Charles (David); five children; her six grandchildren; Ken, Nick, Jeffrey, Joseph, Joshua, Jimmy; and great-grandchild Kelsey.

We celebrate the gift of her life as we give thanks for her many blessings upon her family and friends. We pray for the grace to now entrust her into God's love that sustained her in this life.
