Born on October 5, 1948 in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico to Jesus Alicea and Maria Narvaez, Hector “DJ” Alicea was a man of many pursuits. He shared his love of sports with his children and grandchildren, his passion for art and culture with his loved ones, and his wisdom, courage, and joy with the world.
In the Humboldt Park Community, Hector was a fierce leader and outspoken advocate for the well-being and rights of others. He electrified every room, conversation, and idea about which he spoke. He was often a shoulder to cry on, a brother to lean on, and a refuge for those in need. Within his family, Hector was a wellspring of hope and happiness, as well as a man filled with unbridled love.
He is survived by four children, Raquel Acosta (Mike), Hector Alicea Jr., Donielle Alicea (Edwin), and Mary Alicea. His beloved grandchildren include Rich Hurtado, Angel Alicea, Ezekiel Alicea, Gabriel Korer, and Ethan Acosta.
