Hadiya M Butrus

Hadiya Butrus, known affectionally as Mama Hadiya by her grandchildren, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2024, at the age of 73 in Skokie, Illinois. She was born in 1950 in Dayrabun, Iraq to the late Minas and Bendo Butrus. 

Hadiya fought a brave journey against colon cancer from 2014 to 2024. She is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Hanna Ablahad, and their 4 children and 5 grandchildren. 

Hadiya’s source of happiness was her family. She adored every one of her grandchildren and left the Middle East to reunite with them. She was a devout Christian filled with love and joy for her family and God. 

Family will be accepting condolences on Tuesday, January 16, 2023, and Wednesday, January 17, 2023, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Mart Mariam Chaldean Church, located at 2700 Willow Rd, Northbrook, IL 60062. The funeral mass will take place on Friday, January 19, 2023, at 10:00 am at the same church, followed by burial at Maryhill Cemetery, located at 8600 N. Milwaukee Avenue, Niles, IL 60714. 

Hadiya Butrus will be remembered as a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. May the memories of her kindness and love bring us comfort, and we pray she rests in eternal peace in God’s heavenly kingdom.
