Esmeralda Vazquez aka Shorty, 29, passed away on February 15,2022. Esmeralda was born on July 6, 1992, In Chicago, IL to Fernanda Gandarilla and Santiago. Esmeralda was born in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood and raised in Albany Park. She attended Clemente and Dr. Pedro Albizu Campos High School.
She was small in stature with a huge heart and enjoyed all life had to offer. She was a true warrior and overcame all she endured during her 29 years of life. This made her relatable to her family and many friends. At times, her personality commanded the room and other times she was soft spoken. Because of life’s tough lessons she did not believe in judging others. One can be emotional, different, alone, or broken and she would show love and compassion. She had a special ability to connect and make those going through despair feel loved and strength to continue. As a result, she had many friends turn into family.
Esmeralda was unapologetically herself. She cared about her appearance over material possessions. The baggier the better and always fly, she kept a tough exterior, and emotional on the inside. She spoke with conviction, and was animated with a flip of a finger, or a verbal, “you feel me”.
She loved her Hot Cheetos, her sisters pozole, tacos, and Puerto Rican food.
She loved her loud music and expressed her emptions through songs.
She took care of those she loved, gave a great hug, and didn’t expect anything in return. She will truly be missed by her family, friends, partner and most undoubtably her doggie Princess.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Eladia Rodriquez and David Vazquez.
She is survived by Her aunt Sonia Felix “mom” by Esmeralda. Her many siblings Maria (Tiny) Felix. Vivian and Charlie Flores. Her biological sisters Cristiana, Maribel, and Soraida. Her two Brothers, Charlie and Jose. Her amazing aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
