Enrique Olvera, 84, residing in Chicago IL passed away at 8:39pm Wednesday, July 26, 2023 in Swedish Covenant Hospital surrounded with love by his children and granddaughter. Enrique was born on June 1, 1939 in Mexico to the late Luis and Tomasa (Sanchez) Olvera where he met and later married his wife Margarita Mancilla. At the age of 30, Enrique decided to seek better opportunities for his new family; he and Margarita immigrated and settled in Chicago, IL. In 1969 he arrived in the United States not knowing the language or the culture. He quickly learned to speak English and greeted everyone warmly with a big “Yellow!”. His always typical good humor he kept his signature “Hello” greeting to “Yellow” even after he had mastered the English accent. He had many careers from trolley conductor in Mexico City, Bus Driver with the Chicago Transit Authority, watch maker for Bulova and an open-road truck driver. After almost 20 years of being on the road and owning his own trucking company he decided to retire.
His memory and legacy lives on through his wife and his beloved children: his son, Enrique Olvera Jr., and his daughters: Rebecca Olvera, Nancy Olvera-Malhotra (Mridul), Alicia Olvera and Sandra Olvera and by his only and beloved granddaughter Bella M. Olvera.
